Problems on Age
The sum of the ages of two brothers, having a difference of 8 years between them, will double after 10 years. What is the ratio of the age of the younger brother to that of the elder brother ?

a) 10:13
b) 7 : 11
c) 3:07
d) 8:09

Answer
Solution
Correct Answer Is : 3:07
Solution Is : Age of younger brother =x years. Age of elder brother =(x+8) years.
Therefore after 10 years,
x+x+8+20=2(x+x+8)
2x+28=4x+16
4x-2x=28-16
2x=12 ⇒x=12/2 =6
Therefore required ratio
=6:(6+8) = 6:14 =3:7
X is four years older than Y who is twice as old as Z. If the total age of X, Y and Z be 34, how old is X?

a) 8
b) 10
c) 12
d) 16

Answer
Solution
Correct Answer Is : 16
Solution Is : Let Z`s age be x years. Then, Y`s age
= 2x years. X`s age = (2x + 4) y
ears. (2x + 4) + 2x + x = 34
5x = 30
x = 6
Hence, X`s age = 2x + 4 = 2 x 6 + 4 = 16 years.
A man had 7 children. When their average age was 12 years, a child aged 6 died. The average age of remaing 6 children is

b) 10 years
