SUBJECT & SCHEME OF STUDIES
On the Restoration of Board Examination for Class X From Academic year 2017-18 onwards,Class IX/X under NSQF, The vocational subject can be offered as an additional (optional) subject in combination with five core Academic subjects. The CGPA of class IX and X will be calculated based on the grade obtained in five academic subjects and grade obtained in vocational subject will be reflected under additional (optional) subject.
Vocational subject can be offered as additional (compulsory) subject with five core Academic subjects. The CGPA of Class IX / X will be calculated based on the grade obtained in all six subjects, if vocational subject is taken as additional (compulsory) sixth subject.
Student can also opt 7th subject as optional (e g. Regional Language) if desired.

If any Student fails in any one of the three electives subjects( i.e. Science, mathematice, social science) then it will be replaced by vocational subject ( offered as 6th additional subject) and result of class X Board Examination will be calculated accordingly.
However student desire to reappear in the failed subject, he/ she may appear along with the compartment examination The learning areas will include Two Languages and Three Electives.
Two Languages out of ;
Hindi, English, Assamese, Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Marathi, Malayalam, Manipuri, Oriya, Punjabi, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Lepcha, Limboo, Bhutiya, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Nepali, Tibetan, Mizo, Tangkhul Bodo, Bahasa Malaysia, Gurung, Japanese, Rai, Sherpa, Tamang and Thai.
Three Electives out of the following:
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Sciences
• Work Education or Pre-Vocational Education
• Art Education
• Health and Physical Education

Internal Assessment
Internal assessment of scholastic Area pertaining to Board examination ( Periodical Test, Note Book Submission and Subject enrichment activities) for the first 5 subject will be as
• Periodical Test -10 marks
• Note Book Submission -5 marks
• Sub Enrichment activities - 5 marks
Students may offer any one of the following as an additional subject: Language other than the two compulsory languages (offered as subjects of study) OR Commerce, Painting, Music, Home Science, Foundation of Information Technology/ Information and Communication Technology

Note:
• It is expected that all the students would have studied three languages up to class VIII. Those students who could not clear the third language in class VIII, and have been promoted to class IX shall be examined by the schools concerned at the end of class IX in the same syllabus and textbooks as are prescribed for class VIII. Those who are still unable to clear the third language at the end of class IX may be given another opportunity in class X. No student shall be eligible to appear at the Secondary School Examination of the Board at the end of class X unless she has cleared the third language.
• Hindi and English must be two of the three languages to be offered as stated in the note (i) above. Hindi and English must have been studied at least up to class VIII.
• Student opting for a language , as the 6th class additional subject will followed the Modalities defined as in case of language 1 and 2 in the main circular.
• Practical Examination in Hindustani music (75 marks ),carnatic music (75 marks ), Home Science (25 marks ), FIT/ICT (60 marks ) E-publishing and e-office English or Hindi as one of the optional under Commerce (70 marks ),will Conduct by the School and marks will be reported to the Board.
• Hindi and English must be one of the two languages to be studied in class IX and X. Hindi and English can also be offered simultaneously. In Hindi and English, two courses have been provided for class IX and X keeping in view the varying background of the student. A student may either opt Communicative-English (Subject Code 101) or English Language and Literature (Subject Code 184). Similarly, in Hindi, a student may either opt for Hindi A or Hindi B.
• As a general practice the Board prescribes the textbooks of regional language being followed in classes IX and X in the State Board where the language is taught as the mother-tongue. The schools are advised to bring to the notice of CBSE the changes if any, brought out at the commencement of the academic session by the respectively State Boards, in the textbooks of the language of their State. The affiliated institutions are advised to follow strictly the textbooks prescribed by CBSE in its curriculum unless the change has been duly notified to all schools for general information. No mid-term changes shall be entertained. School are not permitted to teach languages other than the ones prescribed by the Board.
